Sporting CP striker and Arsenal transfer target Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly upset and disappointed by a broken promise from the club.

Sporting CP striker and Arsenal transfer target Viktor Gyokeres is furious and disappointed with the club.

Gyokeres's disappointment and anger stems from a promise made last summer by then-sporting director Hugo Viana that he could leave for a fee lower than his release clause of €60-70 million instead of €100 million.

This promise influenced the Swedish international's decision to stay for the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.

He had his best season ever, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in 52 games, helping Sporting secure a historic double and their first back-to-back league title in 70 years.

After a glorious season, the summer began with unease. Gyokeres had legitimate expectations of a move to a major club in a top league, with the English Premier League at the top of his preferences and Arsenal showing strong interest.

However, the offers presented so far haven't been enough to convince Sporting's management.

The Gunners have reportedly offered €55 million plus €10 million in add-ons, falling short of the €60-70 million the player and his agents had in mind and significantly less than the €80 million Sporting president Frederico Varandas has since publicly stated is required.

"Sporting won't demand the full release clause, but they should know me better by now. Threats, blackmail, and insults don't work with me. One thing I can guarantee: Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60M + €10M. He won't leave because I'll never allow it, and these tactics by his agent are only making things worse," Varandas said last Wednesday at the inauguration of the new Sporting Museum in Leiria.

This whole situation has left Gyokeres deeply frustrated, and he has made his feelings known to Varandas.

While the striker is currently on vacation, there are five clubs reportedly interested.

Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli are considered secondary contenders, while Arsenal and Juventus are leading the chase.

The Swede prefers England, but not just any club. Besides the Gunners, he'd welcome interest from Manchester City and Liverpool.

Outside of England, his preferred destinations include Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, PSG in France, and Bayern Munich in Germany.

While formal offers are yet to materialize, Arsenal have approached Sporting with their €55 million plus add-ons offer and may improve it, though it remains to be seen whether it will be enough.

Reports in Italy suggest Juventus have a plan to reach €80 million, a figure Sporting would reportedly accept, ending a saga that looks set to continue throughout the summer.

With the transfer unresolved, Gyokeres is expected to report back to Alvalade for the start of pre-season training in early July, albeit frustrated and disappointed.
