Starlets almost claimed the lead in the seventh minute, with Tumaini Waliaula breaking free down the right flank and whipping in a dangerous cross which Violet Nanjala met with a firm header, but her effort crashed off the post with Ugandan goalkeeper Lillian Nakiirya well beaten.
But just over ten minutes later, the breakthrough came. In the 18th minute, Diana Wacera picked up the ball outside the area after a partially cleared corner, shifted onto her right foot, and unleashed a thunderous strike that flew into the top corner past Nakiirya to put Kenya 1-0 up.

The onslaught continued just moments later in the 29th minute when Uganda were caught napping at the back. Fasila Adhiambo split the Ugandan defence with a clever through ball, releasing Violet Nanjala, who showed composure beyond her years to slot calmly into the bottom corner for Kenya’s third.
At 3-0 down, Uganda struggled to muster a response. While they tried to press forward, they found themselves repeatedly thwarted by the composed backline marshalled by Shikobe and Enez Mango.
