Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has addressed concerns about goalkeeper Gad Mathews' commitment and recent absences from training sessions.

Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has announced the return of goalkeeper Gad Mathews to the training squad as they gear up for an important match against Murang'a Seal at the SportPesa Arena on Saturday.

Mathews, who had been absent from several training sessions, sparking concerns about his dedication, is now back and ready for action.

The experienced goalkeeper had missed training sessions which raised questions about his commitment a concern that club chairman Ambrose Rachier addressed.

"He is still part of us, but he has been skipping some training sessions. We are looking into it so as to solve the problem," Rachier was quoted by Citizen Digital.

Despite these setbacks, Mathews' return could not be timelier, as Gor Mahia's first-choice keeper Kevin Omondi is suspended due to a red card received in their last game against AFC Leopards.

The gaffer expressed his relief and optimism about having Mathews back in the fold.

"We've got good balance. You know, I think obviously you saw last week, young Caleb came into goals and did very, very well. You know, after a month out of training, Gad Mathews is now back into the group. And so, he'll be there competing for that position as well," McKinstry said.

Gad Mathews underwent a minor surgery earlier in the seasos and had been sidelined for months which allowed Kevin Omondi to solidify his position as the starting goalkeeper.

However, Mathews' return is expected to boost the team's morale and depth as they chase their 21st title.

Gor Mahia needs just four wins and a draw from their remaining seven matches to secure the championship and a chance at continental play.
