CAF CL: Gor Mahia clinging on to hope of miraculous U-turn in Champions League quest

Club officials are working round the clock to pursue every possible solution to their embarrassing situation.

Repentant Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia are still hopeful of making the CAF Champions League draw after the Football Kenya Federation First Instance Body (FIB) withdrew their Club License and rendered them expelled from continent’s premier club competition.

Gor Mahia have tabled proof of payments to three foreign players who had reported them to FIFA. K’Ogalo have gone further to table acknowledgment letters from the trio and are engaging CAF’s member federation, FKF, in a bid to rescue their fate.

CAF Inter Clubs Committee will tomorrow conduct the draw for the Champions League and ominously left Gor Mahia out of the list of clubs to be drawn against one another in the preliminary round.

“We are still pursuing all available means to try and get our slot back. We played well throughout the season and have met all our obligations to former players,’ Commercial Director Jolawi Obondo told Pulse Sports on Monday morning

Probed on if there were positive feedback from CAF and FKF Jolawi said the door is still open for Gor Mahia and remains hopeful that the 1987 Mandela Cup winners will be in tomorrow’s draw. “There is correspondence between us and the federation regarding the matter. Everyone wants a good outcome and I believe we will get it,” he said

“They asked us for proof of payments which we had earlier given and they acknowledged. They then asked us for acknowledgement letters from the recipients and those ones we have also given. So we are just following every step asked of us and hoping for the best,” the experienced football manager added

The federation is worried of the single slot available to Kenya and is said to have asked CAF to consider Tusker, the second placed team from last season’s grueling campaign if at all Gor Mahia are completely banished.
