Nairobi United are determined to continue their giant-killing FKF Cup run by defeating Gor Mahia and securing a historic CAF Confederation Cup spot.

With a historic CAF Confederation Cup qualification up for grabs, Nairobi United are poised to face giants Gor Mahia in a decisive semi-final showdown potentially at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The date remains unconfirmed, but the stakes couldn’t be higher as the winner will secure a ticket to next season’s continental stage alongside newly-crowned league champions Kenya Police FC.

Underdogs With a Point to Prove

Despite their “giant slayer” status this season, Nairobi United have refused to embrace the underdog label.

The NaiBois captain, Daniel Bichiok Dang, spoke exclusively to Pulse Sports, brushing off suggestions that the pressure of facing Gor Mahia would overwhelm them.

"I think like I've always said, football is played on the pitch. So we don't feel any pressure as long as we follow our game plan," Bichiok said with quiet confidence.

That confidence is not misplaced. Nairobi United have built a reputation for upsetting the traditional powers of Kenyan football, knocking out the likes of Tusker FC, KCB, and Kakamega Homeboyz en route to this pivotal clash.

Mental Edge and Tactical Discipline

Bichiok credited the team’s mindset as a critical factor in their FKF Cup journey, highlighting the role of their coach Nicolas Muyoti in instilling a resilient mentality.

"I can say we have had that resilience and mental toughness that the coach has instilled in the players," he noted.

"Among the players and the coach, underrating us hasn't even crossed their minds because they have seen our campaign. Maybe among the fans, there is that feeling, but among the players, I know they realize we are a strong team."

The Nairobi United camp remains unfazed by Gor Mahia’s pedigree, with Bichiok downplaying the glamour of facing the 21-time league champions.

"It would be a good feeling, but Gor is just like any other team, so if we beat them it will not be any different to Tusker or Homeboyz," he stated.

Gor Mahia, despite entering the FKF Cup as defending league champions, have recently been bruised by losing the 2024/25 FKF Premier League title to Kenya Police FC.

With their CAF Confederation Cup hopes now solely resting on the cup, pressure is squarely on the Green Army.

"I do not think we have anything to prove. All we want to do is win the game. Bullying them (Gor Mahia) is not an exception—we have been doing that to teams of similar caliber," he said, throwing a bold warning to Gor.

Piling Misery on Childhood Heroes

In a sentimental twist, Bichiok admitted he’s long held affection for Gor Mahia as a fan, but insisted there will be no soft spots on matchday.

"It is a very good feeling to play against them. It is a team that I have love for for a very long time, so to play against them is special," he concluded.

As Nairobi United look to cap off their dream cup run with a shot at continental football, all eyes will be on their clash with Gor Mahia, a battle of tradition versus momentum, legacy versus hunger.
