Kenya Police FC and other potential CAF representatives, Gor Mahia and Nairobi United may miss out on continental football due to unresolved licensing fee issues.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has sounded the alarm on a looming financial challenge that could derail the continental dreams of Kenyan clubs, including Kenya Police FC, Gor Mahia or Nairobi United, who are set to take part in the CAF Champions League next season.

The federation chief revealed that the licensing fees required for participation in CAF competitions are proving to be a major hurdle for local clubs.

Kenya Police FC recently clinched their maiden FKF Premier League title, earning the coveted spot to represent the country at the top tier of African club football.

However, their anticipated journey alongside FKF Cup winners between Gor Mahia and Nairobi United is now clouded by uncertainty, with Mohammed confirming that the federation is actively working to ensure that financial constraints don’t lock out the representatitives from continental action.

Licensing Fees a Stumbling Block

Addressing the issue, Mohammed acknowledged that the club licensing fees demanded by CAF are significant and could prevent clubs from fulfilling all requirements to participate.

"We are pushing hard to resolve these financial obstacles," he stated via Citizen Digital, emphasizing FKF’s role in helping Kenya's representatives meet the conditions needed for entry into CAF competitions.

Mohammed's comments come at a time when concerns are mounting about the readiness of Kenyan teams to compete regionally and continentally.

The federation hopes to secure financial support or relief mechanisms to enable qualified clubs to compete and raise the country’s profile in African football.

The financial challenge isn’t exclusive to Kenya Police FC. The situation also casts a shadow over the FKF Cup finalists, Gor Mahia and Nairobi United, who are vying for the single CAF Confederation Cup slot awarded to the tournament winner.

Either team that emerges victorious, they too must navigate the licensing hurdle to secure their place in next season’s competition.

As the federation continues to lobby for support, the fate of Kenyan football's representatives on the continental stage remains in the balance.

Clubs, fans, and stakeholders alike now wait anxiously to see if the FKF can overcome the financial barriers and ensure that the country is represented in CAF’s prestigious tournaments.
