The former Vihiga United coach takes over from Mark Asa who was shown the door last week.

Almost a week after being appointed as Mwatate United's head coach Evans Mafuta will make his sideline debut at the club on Saturday afternoon.

Mafuta, whose last job was with Vihiga United, watched at Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium as his new side held MCF to a 1-1 draw last Wednesday.

The CAF C license holder was hired on Sunday, three days after Mwatate fell to a 3-1 loss at the hands of Darajani Gogo under Mark Otieno.

But the gaffer could not take to the sidelines immediately as he had to wait for his official unveiling on Thursday.

While the official announcement was pending, Mfuta was classified as a consultant and not allowed to coach on game day.

Mwatate United chairman James Okoyo confirmed that Mafuta was among ten coaches shortlisted for the job.

"Mafuta emerged number one out of ten coaches who applied for the position. I am confident he will take Mwatate to greater heights," Okoyo told reporters.

Mafuta previously handled division two outfit West Indies Eldoret and National Super League outfit Silibwet Leons.

Mwatate United is currently in 13th place with 24 points from 25 matches played this season.

Recently Mwatate inked a three-million sponsorship deal with a local sisal-processing firm Teita Estate.

The sponsorship was part of the company's commitment to promoting sport and ensuring diverse talents were developed in the region.
