Okere oversaw what was possibly Tusker's worst Premier League defeat in history, getting beaten 7-1 by Sofapaka last Sunday.

The Tusker FC management have revealed they are 100 percent behind Charles Okere, whose future was put into doubt following the club’s historic 7-1 defeat to Sofapaka in their FKFPL clash at the Dandora Stadium last Sunday.

The heavy result ended their hopes of winning the tile, and it now means they will have to wait five years to end their quest for silverware, having also been knocked out of the FKF Cup earlier in the season.

In the wake of the historic loss, pressure mounted on Okere, with speculation swirling over his future at the club. However, Tusker’s management has moved quickly to shut down those rumours and express unwavering support for the former Harambee Starlets head coach.

Gacheru: We Are Fully Behind Okere

Club chairman Charles Gacheru reaffirmed the board’s backing of Okere, insisting the tactician has their full trust as he looks to steady the ship.

“We are backing Okere to turn the team’s fortunes around and finish the season strongly. He is our head coach, and we are fully behind him—there is no doubt about that,” Gacheru told Mozzart Sport.

Despite the disappointing result, Gacheru maintained that the club still views the campaign in a positive light, especially given that this is Okere’s debut season in charge of a top-flight side.

“It has largely been a good season. It’s his first year as a top-flight coach, and he kept the team in the title race until the final stretch. In fact, technically, we’re still in the race. So, there’s absolutely no reason to consider a coaching change,” he added.

Gacheru acknowledged the humiliation of the loss but drew parallels with big clubs in Europe, noting that even elite teams have suffered similar setbacks without resorting to sacking their managers.

“The result was disappointing—no question. But every big club has suffered a heavy defeat at some point. Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona—you name them—have all been on the receiving end of big losses. They didn’t sack their coaches, and we’re not going to either.”

The club will now conduct a thorough review of the performance, with Gacheru confirming that steps will be taken to ensure such a collapse isn’t repeated.

“We’ll sit down with the coaching staff, assess the game, and make the necessary corrections as we move forward.”

Tusker will aim to bounce back when they take on Kariobangi Sharks in their next league assignment, with Okere firmly at the helm.
