Rumors' of his departure surfaced online at the middle of the week and now the club has confirmed the decision.

National Super League (NSL) side Vihiga United have confirmed parting ways with coach Mike Mururi.

The team has been recording inconsistent results in the league this season as they have won just four games, drawn six, and lost 12, and it is, for this reason, the side has opted to make changes in the technical bench.

"Vihiga United has parted ways with coach Mike Muiruri. Mike has been instrumental in our season bringing players together in these difficult times at the club," read a statement from the club.

The 47-year-old former Kenya international Mururi had rejoined the club from Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Sofapaka where he served as an assistant.

Vihiga has since announced the appointment of an interim manager who will be in charge of the club for the remaining eight league matches.

"Assistant coach Samuel Oti Twago will take over on an interim basis," the club statement added.

He was given the job after former coach Sammy Okoth failed to report to work and raised concerns about the club's financial constraints, which he said made their survival difficult.

Mururi boasts a wealth of experience on the bench, having had previous stints with Chemelil Sugar, Kisumu All Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Sofapaka.

The team is currently placed 16th on the table with 12 points from 22 matches played this season.

Twago's first game in charge will be a league match against Mully Children's Family (MFC) at Mumias Sports Complex.
