2012 UEFA Champions League winner Florent Malouda believes his compatriot Mbappe should join his former club Chelsea next

Chelsea club icon Florent Malouda has spoken of his admiration for his compatriot Kylian Mbappe, saying he hopes the Frenchman can play for his former club Chelsea in the Premier League at some point in his career.

Malouda spent six seasons at Chelsea between 2007 and 2013, winning three FA Cups, the Premier League title in 2010 and Chelsea’s first-ever UEFA Champions League in 2012.

He also played for the French national team 80 times between 2004 and 2012, helping them to a runners-up medal in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Malouda was revered by Chelsea fans as one of the finest left-wingers during his spell at the club, and now the former Lyon and Delhi Dynamos winger wants to see his compatriot Kylian Mbappe enjoy the type of admiration he also enjoyed with the Blues.

Speaking to Ice36, Malouda claimed that he has been trying to get Mbappe to move to Chelsea for a while now, and would not relent in his efforts as he believes that London would be the best place for Mbappe to flourish.

He said, “I’ve been campaigning for him to join Chelsea for a very long time! So far, I’ve failed but I will keep trying.”

Speaking on the reasons why he believes that Chelsea would be the perfect club for Mbappe, Malouda said, “There are not that many teams that can give him what he wants and there are not that many teams that can build their team around him.

“He is a leader, he’s just been appointed the captain of the French national team and he will be looking for a leadership role at his next club, which can create problems.”

Mbappe’s current deal with Paris Saint-Germain is expected to las until at least 2025, but Malouda believes that the World Cup winner’s destiny lies in Chelsea and would like to see his former club make the move despite the enormous fee that the player would attract.

The 2006 World Cup finalist with France said, “It’s just a matter of time and connections. You need to get on the phone to Todd Boehly and tell him, then you need to get on the phone to Kylian!“

It sounds easier said than done, but Malouda remains hopeful that the move will happen one day.
