FKF president Hussein Mohammed has revealed what the contract of Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy says about a possible exit following links to Orlando Pirates.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has weighed in on the contractual terms of Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy.

McCarthy became Harambee Stars coach in March and a lot has been said about his salary with a figure of Ksh8 million per month reported to be his pay.

There has also been speculation linking him with a departure just soon after signing a two-year contract amid links to his former club Orlando Pirates, who are looking for a new coach following the exit of Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro.

Mohammed insists the figure of Ksh8 million is nowhere near what the South African earns in Kenya but has left it to the tactician to reveal the true amount.

“Benni McCarthy’s term is up to 2027, immediately after AFCON. He is employed like any other employee and his terms of payment are personal to him. If we get his consent, we can discuss the terms of his pay, it should not be a big issue,” Mohammed said on Citizen TV.

What Does Benni McCarthy’s Exit Clause Stipulate?

“I would rather it came from him so that he clarifies because it is a private matter. It is not the figures that have been thrown around and it would be important that it comes from him so that he feels comfortable with that particular agenda.”

The FKF boss then clarified on the future of McCarthy and how the two parties can disengage if they are not satisfied with each other.

“We have agreed within the contract that we have to give each other notice if we want him to leave and if he wants also to leave the terms are very clear, we have to give a period of time. It is a short period, maybe two to three months and just say we want to part ways and we have a very clear exit plan,” he added.

McCarthy has been linked to the Pirates job since Riveiro announced his departure in April although the tactician looks focused on his job in Kenya at the moment as he prepares his team for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024).
