Gor Mahia are picking up the pieces from their failed FKF Premier League title chase but which games proved costly in their quest for a third straight crown?
Gor Mahia saw their quest to win a third straight FKF Premier League title go up in smoke on Sunday when Kenya Police sealed their first-ever crown.
Police needed a draw from their match against Shabana to win the title but won it 1-0, rendering Gor Mahia’s 3-2 victory over Ulinzi Stars insignificant.
However, Gor Mahia had already kissed the title goodbye in May even though mathematically, they were still in it heading into Sunday’s match, having recorded some surprising results especially in the second half of the season.

Pulse Sports highlights the key results that cost Gor Mahia a third straight FKF Premier League title.
Gor Mahia 0-1 Bidco United
)
Gor Mahia may have thrown it away in May but one key result in early December came back to bite harder.
K’Ogalo suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to struggling Bidco United with Erick Michubu’s sixth-minute penalty making the difference on December 8 when most fans expected them to win and the three dropped points became crucial in the title race.
Kenya Police 1-0 Gor Mahia
)
In what was a third straight match without a win, having previously drawn 1-1 with Shabana, Gor Mahia faced title rivals Police on December 14 and instead of getting back to winning ways, they lost, picking one point from a possible nine over that three-match period.
Alvin Mangeni’s 63rd minute goal made all the difference with Police adding three more points on the board as K’Ogalo dropped.
Gor Mahia 0-1 FC Talanta
)
Gor Mahia would improve at the turn of the year and stayed close to title rivals Tusker FC and Police but when they had been handed the initiative in April, they threw it away.
K’Ogalo lost 1-0 to FC Talanta on April 24 when Emmanuel Osoro’s 38th minute strike condemned them to another surprising defeat as they failed to take advantage of dropped points from their rivals.
Gor Mahia 1-2 City Stars
)
Heading into May and coach Sinisa Mihic under pressure, Gor Mahia’s shaky season hit a new low when they were shocked by basement side Nairobi City Stars on May 13.
Hansel Ochieng scored a fourth-minute goal for Simba wa Nairobi but Benson Omala equalised six-minute later only for Vincent Otieno’s 16th-minute penalty to win it for City Stars, a game that heavily dented their title charge.
Murang’a Seal 0-0 Gor Mahia
)
Following the loss to City Stars, Gor Mahia knew any more slip ups and it was all gone but that is exactly what happened as in their following match away to Murang’a Seal on May 18, they failed to beat their hosts.
Murang’a forced a goalless draw with K’Ogalo, a result that ended their hopes, even if mathematically they were in it, as everything went into the hands of Police and the club reacted by sacking Mihic the following day.
However, the damage was already done and K’Ogalo never recovered as Police held firm on their advantage.
