Mbeumo is a hot commodity this summer after a stellar season with Brentford, netting 20 Premier League goals.

United are leading the race for the forward's signature, but face competition from Tottenham, now managed by Mbeumo's former Brentford boss, Thomas Frank. While Mbeumo is reportedly "leaning towards" United, the connection with Frank makes Tottenham an intriguing option.

Onana's close relationship with Mbeumo from their time together on the Cameroon national team could prove crucial in swaying the forward's decision. Mbeumo has earned 22 caps for Cameroon since his debut in 2022, while Onana boasts an impressive 48.

United have already seen a bid of around £60 million rejected by Brentford. Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly determined to reunite Mbeumo with Frank, tabling a bid of approximately £70 million, according to the Mirror.

Brentford may be tempted to cash in on Mbeumo, who is out of contract next season, although the club holds an option to extend his deal until 2027.

Mbeumo recently spoke about his former manager, praising Frank's impact on his development: "He's done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well.”

He added: "He knows everything; he's really smart and knows what he wants to bring to the team, how he wants them to play. He's been fantastic for Brentford."

Addressing the transfer speculation surrounding his future, Mbeumo acknowledged, "It is a bit new for me, I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it."
