Erik Ten Hag eyes another Ajax star to solve goalscoring problem

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag views Ajax striker as solution to goalscoring problem.

Manchester United's dynamic boss, Erik ten Hag, is back in the transfer headlines with his renewed interest in Brian Brobbey, the young Ajax striker.

Despite facing rejection in 2022, Ten Hag's determination seems unwavering. Sky Germany's latest scoop reveals Ten Hag's ambition to seal the deal for Brobbey before the January window closes.

The Pursuit Continues

Ten Hag's pursuit of Brobbey is nothing short of a football saga. The Manchester United manager had previously enticed the striker with a big-money move to Old Trafford in 2022, even resorting to personal phone calls.

Yet Brobbey chose to stay with Ajax, leaving United and Ten Hag in the lurch. Now, with Ajax reluctant to sell, Ten Hag's quest might be delayed till summer, but the United boss is not known for giving up easily.

Striker Woes at United

United's frontline has been gasping for goals this season. Despite shelling out for Rasmus Hojlund last summer, the returns have been meagre, with Hojlund managing just two Premier League goals. The problem? A dire lack of service.

Brobbey, on the other hand, is on a roll at Ajax with 13 goals and four assists in 25 matches. This striking contrast puts Brobbey high on Ten Hag's wishlist, his previous snub notwithstanding.

Brobbey etched his name in Ajax's history as the third-youngest player to hit 30 Eredivisie goals, following legends like Rafael van der Vaart and Kasper Dolberg. He achieved this feat in December 2023, aged 21 years and 319 days, against PEC Zwolle.

Ten Hag's raid on his former club has already netted him, Lisandro Martinez and Antony. Whether he'll return for Brobbey is the burning question. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also casting their net wider with links to Benjamin Sesko, Crystal Palace's Michael Olise, and Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee.
