Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and forward Mohamed Salah had an altercation that left observers bewildered but the reason for their disagreement has now been revealed.

It is now emerging that the tension witnessed between Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and star forward Mohamed Salah during the 2-2 draw against West Ham United was due to a handshake.

According to The Sun, the incident stemmed from Klopp's expectation of a handshake from Salah before the Egyptian international was set to come on as a substitute.

Although the two eventually exchanged a fist bump, Klopp felt slighted by what he perceived as a lack of interaction from Salah.

According to sources close to the situation, Klopp places significant emphasis on communication and interaction with his substitutes before they enter the field, and Salah's initial failure to engage in this ritual irked the Liverpool boss.

Additionally, Salah's apparent frustration at being left out of the starting lineup compounded the situation, leading to a tense exchange between the two.

Salah's actions didn't end with the initial handshake incident. He also snubbed Klopp at the end of the match, choosing to shake hands with West Ham manager David Moyes instead of acknowledging his own coach.

While Klopp attempted to downplay the situation publicly, stating that the matter was discussed in the dressing room and was now resolved, tensions continued to simmer beneath the surface.

“We spoke about it in the dressing room, but it’s done for me. That’s it,” Klopp told the media after the match.

The players were given time off after the match, with hopes that tensions would ease by the time they reconvened for training. However, Salah's cryptic remarks after the game hinted at lingering discontent, with the Egyptian forward suggesting that speaking out could ignite further controversy.

“There's going to be fire today if I speak,” said Salah.

However, reports on Monday suggest Salah does not plan to quit Liverpool despite the spat and will stay at Anfield for at least one more season even as he continues to attract interest from Saudi clubs.
