Bayer 4-0 Hacken: Boniface opens UEL account as African excellence lifts rampant Leverkusen

Last season's joint-top scorer Victor Boniface has returned to the Europa League to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a brilliant start alongside other Africans.

In a scintillating encounter in the UEFA Europa League, UEL, African stars led by Nigeria’s Victor Boniface inspired Bayer Leverkusen to a dominant win against BK Hacken. 

Leverkusen proved just too good and strong for the Swedish qualifiers following a commanding 4-0 defeat at the BayArena on Thursday evening. 

The match showcased an exceptional performance by Leverkusen’s African talents, with Nigeria Super Eagles striker, Boniface, the standout performer. 

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hacken: Boniface shines

The 22-year-old was in superb form as he got off to the mark in the competition where he finished as the joint-top scorer last season. 

The encounter kicked off with Bayer Leverkusen asserting their dominance early on. Their attacking prowess was on full display as they put Hacken to the sword.

Leverkusen’s African stars came to the fore with Boniface threading an excellent through ball for Florian Wirtz to open the scoring in the 10th minute.

Then, Morocco’s Amine Adli doubled the lead six minutes later before combining with his fellow African, Boniface, for the third goal after the break. 

The goal was Boniface’s first in the Europa League and fifth of the season in all competitions for Die Werkself. 

African Excellence Shines

While Boniface and Adli picked up a goal and an assist each in a fine performance, they were not the only Africans who put on a show for the home side.

England-born Nigerian winger, Nathan Tella, celebrated his first start for the club since his summer move with an excellent showing.

The 24-year-old was on the pitch for an hour and finished with the most chances created. He created six chances, made six key passes and completed 93% of his passes.

Another African star on shone for Die Werkself was centre-back, Edmond Tapsoba, from Burkina Faso.

The talented defender completed 99% of his passes and made one recovery as he helped Bayer to a clean sheet. 

Bayer Leverkusen’s emphatic victory in the UEL demonstrated their determination to compete at the highest level this summer as Xabi Alonso looks to guide the team further than the semifinal stage from last season.

The match witnessed an exceptional display fo talent from Leverkusen’s African stars, underlining the global appeal of the club.
