Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed his Arsenal to win the Premier League title despite Manchester City’s pressure.

Arsenal failed to maintain their momentum, having dropped four points in their last two games. They surrendered two-goal leads against Liverpool and West Ham which reduced their point gap with Manchester City.

During this period, City have also picked up necessary points as they reduce the point gap to four points, with a game in hand. However, Wenger has said he believes his former team will still clinch the title regardless of City’s pressure.

Arsenal hoping to increase the point gap before City clash

Relegation-threatened Southampton will be welcomed to the Emirates Stadium by Arsenal on Friday night. With Pep Guardiola's team playing in this weekend's FA Cup semi-finals. They will be hoping to get a win and go seven points clear before the Ultimate showdown at the Etihad.

Mikel Arteta's team can improve their recent bad form before Arsenal's trip to Etihad Stadium, where the two title rivals will square off on Wednesday, April 26.

City’s attention will be on two different competitions in the next few days but the north London side are focused on the Premier League title. However, they face the Saints who are fighting for their lives in the relegation zone.

Wenger has urged the players to relax and focus on the process

Arsenal’s clash with Southampton seems a good time for them to get their title bid on track before the City game and Arsene Wenger has urged the players to relax and focus on the process.

Speaking in an interview with beIN Sports, Wenger said, "Arsenal and these players have not been in the position to win the league before.

"Hopefully they win it this year and next year it will be easier. But now, when you have never won it, there will be a moment in the season when the tension comes in.

"When you start thinking more about the need to win than the process and how to play, it gets difficult. I felt that at Arsenal when I was there too."

When asked if Man City are now firm favourites to win the Premier League, Wenger replied: ‘No, no, no. I would say Arsenal still [will win the title].

"What you want in this position is to have things in your hand. If Arsenal win their games, they win the league, so that’s an ideal position with a few games to go.

"Of course, Man City have an opportunity when they play Arsenal and that could be the decider in the championship. I still fancy Arsenal, I’m not completely objective here, but I do. We will also have to see how much the Champions League takes out of Man City.’
