AFC Leopards defender Kennedy Owino is confident of a positive result when his side take on Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday.
Leopards will be out to slow down Gor Mahia’s march to the title when the two sides clash in the next installment of the Mashemeji derby having lost the corresponding fixture 2-0 last September.
It will also be the first time Owino will be tasting the derby and the defender is pumped up especially after scoring the only goal for Ingwe in Sunday’s 1-0 win against his former side Posta Rangers.

The AFC Leopards defender has explained how Ingwe executed their game plan after learning how poor the playing surface would be at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos.
“We have the Derby on Sunday and you know it’s the biggest game on the land,” Owino said as per Leopards’ website.
“Preparations started immediately after the Posta Rangers game. Once again, we urge all our fans to come and rally behind the team. We will give a good account of ourselves. I can’t wait for my Mashemeji Derby debut.”
Owino has quickly endeared himself to Leopards fans since joining from Posta Rangers in the midseason transfer window and with his goal ending Ingwe’s run of two games without a defeat, he can become even more popular with a top performance against Gor Mahia.

Mashemeji derby: Venue relief for Gor Mahia as fixture date is switched
Gor Mahia will now be able to host AFC Leopards at one of the traditional venues for the high stakes match after outcry from fans over possibility of playing it in Machakos.
“I never expected to score against my former team, but when the opportunity came, I had to make good use of it and open my goals account in the Den. We made a promise to our fans and we lived up to it. We are hoping to continue with the same momentum until the end of the season,” he added.
The Mashemeji derby has been moved to Nyayo Stadium after the fixture date was switched to Sunday having initially been primed for Saturday.
However, with the Kip Keino Classic taking place at Nyayo on Saturday and Kasarani closed for renovation, K’Ogalo did not have a suitable venue for the match and were exploring the possibility of hosting it in Machakos.
