The company and the local heavyweights entered into a partnership, as was revealed last month.

AFC Leopards sponsor, Bata has dismissed claims they have closed business in the country.

Ingwe, in early May, revealed that they had entered into a partnership with the shoemaker, which is based in Limuru, Kiambu County.

On Saturday, there were rumours that the company was closing, but the manufacturing firm has come out to dismiss them.

"We are on a normal annual maintenance shut down normally provided for during off peak season," a statement signed by Bata’s Managing Director Benson Okumu, read.

"We are heritage business, strategic in operations for commercial output, so seasonal breaks in production are within our scope.

"All our stores are open and functional, with great teams to serve you and a wide variety of shoes in ample stocks to deliver on our promise - to provide quality footwear for all.

"We live the Bata way by improving the lives of the communities in which we operate, and this means supporting our consumer teams and also the community itself through activities such as Bata Children’s Programme."

When announcing their partnership with Bata, Leopards confirmed what they were set to get from the shoe maker.

"Northstar shoes customized specifically for AFC Leopards were launched," the club’s statement said then.

"They have a wide variety of footwear in their stores, visit them to get yourself one or many for your family."
