Gor Mahia’s 2024/25 season has been a story of early promise turned sour.

3. Coaching Carousel

Gor Mahia’s season was marred by constant changes in leadership, which undermined any attempt at consistency.

The club started the campaign under Brazilian coach Leo Neiva, but his tenure was short-lived, with the club cutting ties after just a few months.

Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno was briefly handed the keys to the city, only to be replaced once again by Sinisa Mihic.

Mihic brought some stability and got the team back into contention, but even his stay was short. He was fired before the end of the season, and Otieno returned as interim coach yet again.

This revolving door of managers disrupted the tactical setup, and deprived the club of long-term direction.

2. Failure to Utilize January Transfer Window

Gor Mahia stariker Benson Omala returned in during the January window.

With Gor Mahia struggling for goals in the first half of the season, the January transfer window was seen as a crucial opportunity to bring in a proven striker. Unfortunately, the club’s moves fell flat.

The much-hyped arrival of Ugandan forward Charles Bbaale did not deliver the firepower expected. His performances were underwhelming, and he failed to solve Gor’s goal-scoring woes.

The club also re-signed striker Benson Omala, but that attempt similarly yielded no tangible results.

This lack of proper attacking reinforcements proved costly, especially in tight matches where a clinical finisher could have made the difference.

1. Wrangle Wars

At the heart of Gor Mahia’s collapse was the internal drama that turned a promising season into a crisis.

Coach Sinisa Mihic had remarkably pulled the club back into the title picture, challenging leaders Kenya Police FC. However, success on the pitch masked a growing rift behind the scenes.

Mihic’s working relationship with assistant coaches Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam deteriorated rapidly.

Power struggles and disagreements disrupted team harmony and created a toxic atmosphere. The wrangles eventually boiled over, leading to Mihic’s dismissal and the controversial decision to hand control back to the very figures he had clashed with.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. With the season on the line, the coaching upheaval shattered the team’s rhythm, and their title bid fell apart.

From managerial turmoil to poor transfers and damaging internal conflicts, Gor Mahia's season was undone not by their opponents, but by their own missteps.
