Reigning Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has disclosed her next marathon as she prepares to defend her Olympic title.

Reigning Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has hinted where she will be competing next as she eyes the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Jepchirchir had a rough season last year where she suffered a calf injury and was forced to withdraw from the 2023 New York City Marathon.

Speaking to Nation Sport, Jepchirchir explained that she is now doing well and sharpening her talons as she seeks to make her second appearance at the London Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 21. She made her first appearance in the capital city of the United Kingdom last year where she finished third.

“The calf injury has healed and I’m back in training. The pain has gone and I feel comfortable now.

It’s my desire to also join the list of these great Kenyans to have won in London and more so make the final team for the Paris Olympics. I want to be the best form during the race,” Jepchirchir said.

At the Olympic Games in Paris, France, Jepchirchir will be seeking to make history as the first woman to retain her title in the marathon and also win the title twice.

During the delayed 2020 Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan, Jepchirchir oozed class while destroying a strong field to clinch the top prize.

The Kenyan clocked 2:27:20 to win the race ahead of compatriot Brigid Kosgei who finished second in 2:27:36 as American Molly Seidel completed the podium after clocking 2:27:46.

She made history on the global stage, becoming the second woman to win the women’s Olympic title behind Jemimah Sumgong who stunned the whole world during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
