Widely regarded as the 'goat' of mountain running, Patrick Kipngeno has shared his calendar of events after a great start to the season at the Tinderet Barngetuny Mountain Run.

World Mountain and Trail Running champion Patrick Kipngeno is gearing up for a busy 2024 season as he seeks to defend his World Cup title.

World Athletics in the recent past announced the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup calendar that features 13 races.

The competition will kick off in June where runners will head to Lake Tahoe in California for the Broken Arrow Skyrace. He also has his eyes set on the Golden Trail World Series that begins in April in Japan and China for the Asian leg.

“For now, I’m getting ready to run the Golden Series which will begin in April in China, and then from June to August, I will be competing in the World Cup and Golden Trails,” Kipngeno said during an interview after finishing second in the men’s race at the Tinderet Barngetuny Mountain Run.

The men’s event saw Fredrick Domongole cut the tape first in 51:48.80 ahead of the mountain running expert Kipngeno who was forced to settle for second place after clocking 54:21.90. Richard Ayuya completed the podium in style after clocking 55:00.6.

Kipngeno expressed gratitude towards finishing second and noted that it is a good sign as he bids to have smooth sailing throughout the season. He also observed that the field was quite strong.

“The race was good but challenging and I thank God for my second-place finish. I am happy because I didn’t expect to finish in the podium bracket.

"My performance here is proof that this season I will work smart and take the World cup title and the golden trails,” Kipngeno said.
