Legendary sprinter Michael Johnson has marveled at Josh Kerr's decision to compete at the World Indoor Championships, noting what it indicates.

On Monday night, World 1500m Josh Kerr changed his mind and decided to compete at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland starting March 1 to 3 after much speculation.

Kerr will be competing in the 3000m and he will definitely be looking to shine on home soil, competing against some of the greatest runners.

Kerr’s move seemed to have impressed legendary sprint star Michael Johnson who shared his thoughts on his X (Twitter) handle.

He said: “Refreshing to see what appears to be more athletes realizing to truly be considered a professional, you must race more on the few big stages available to you.”

Meanwhile, Kerr is in the form of his life and the Scottish middle-distance runner hopes to continue the winning streak. He set a world record for two miles of 8:00.67 at the Millrose Games last week but it was thought he might opt for the metric mile in Glasgow.

However, he will now test his prowess over 3000m with rivals likely to include Yared Nuguse, who won the US title in Albuquerque this weekend, plus Ethiopians Selemon Barega and world record-holder Lamecha Girma.

Also, Jemma Reekie and Laura Muir were definitely expected to be named as members of the squad after winning UK titles in Birmingham on Sunday.

Reekie set a championship record of 1:58.24 in the 800m while Muir stormed to a clear win in the 3000m.
