Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has explained why she will not be racing in both the 100 and 110 meters hurdles for the remainder of the 2025 Grand Slam Track after her Philadelphia struggles.
Reigning 400 meter hurdles Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has explained why she will not be taking part in short hurdles anymore for the remainder of the 2025 Grand Slam Track League challenge following her Philadelphia exploits last weekend.
McLaughlin-Levrone stepped out of her comfort zone for both the Miami and Philadelphia Grand Slam Track legs after she nonchalantly coasted to victory in the first Grand Slam Track leg in Kingston in her specialist 400 meter hurdles event as well as the 400 meters.
In Kingston, she clocked a world-leading 52.76 in the 400m hurdles and a strong 50.32 in the 400m flat.

Michael Olunga: Fresh Interest from Middle East in Harambee Stars Captain as Al Duhail Unveil His Replacement
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has attracted interest from a Middle East club as he weighs multiple offers coming his way after his departure from Al Duhail.
Then in Miami, she went quicker in both disciplines, clocking a world-leading 52.07 in the 400m hurdles on Saturday (3) and following it with a dominant run of 49.69 in the 400m on Sunday (4), winning both races by two seconds. They’re also the fastest times she has ever recorded at this point of the season.

McLaughlin-Levrone won Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles in 2021 and 2024, as well as at the 2022 World Championships. She last raced the 100m hurdles in May 2024, and her personal best over the distance stands at 12.65s, set at the USATF Golden Games in May 2021.
However, in Philadelphia, she struggled out of her comfort zone. McLaughlin-Levrone made the step up over the flat 100m after she finished fifth over the barriers the day before.
The 100m hurdles event was also a rare outing for the versatile American superstar, with only four races to her name before Saturday’s appearance in Philly. She clocked a creditable 12.70s for her fifth-place finish.

5 Times Harambee Stars Captain Michael Olunga Shocked the Football World
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has repeatedly shocked the football world with record-breaking performances and clutch goals across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
“I think for this last slam, I probably won’t do the short hurdles,” she said. “It’ll either be the 400 hurdles or the 400, which I think right now is the plan. But maybe in years to come, we’ll go back to the short hurdles and give it another try.”
After a solid showing over the shorter distance recently, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to step outside her primary event and prove her versatility.
“I appreciate them giving me that opportunity to show that I do have some range and can hang with these really fast girls,” she noted. “It’s fun for me to change it up. I don’t like to be confined to just one box, so it’s been great to work on becoming more well-rounded.”
Though she didn’t walk away with a personal best, she remained content with her performance. “I didn’t have a time goal. I definitely would’ve loved to go a bit faster, closer to my PR, but that just comes down to execution,” she said. “I can’t be mad at what happened today. I’m just happy to walk away healthy.”
