Speaking during an interview with Essence, Junelle Bromfield and Noah Lyles claimed that their relationship became stronger.

The couple revealed that they knew they had only each other and had to provide a safe space to thrive during and even after the Olympic Games.

Noah Lyles still had the 200m to compete in after winning the 100m, and he went on to finish third behind Letsile Tebogo and Kenny Bednarek in the race. He later confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID.

On her part, Junelle Bromfield was competing in the 400m and the 4x400m mixed relay, where she finished eighth in the semifinal of the former and missed out on the final. In the mixed relay, Team Jamaica finished a distant fifth in the final.

“We would both say it increased the trust between each other. We confided in each other even more,” they said.

“While everything was going on online, we had to make sure that the bad energy didn’t flow into our relationship.

“Because at the end of the day, we had the biggest stage to compete on and we knew that it was important that we both remain each other’s safe space.”

Opening up about how they handle critics, Junelle Bromfield claimed that she is only concerned about what her family and friends say to her.

“Somebody told me once that you don’t go to a stranger for advice, so why would their opinion matter? I live by that,” Bromfield said.

As for Noah Lyles, he noted that ignoring his haters is how he copes, noting that he has trained himself to focus on positive feedback.

Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield have also mastered the art of striking a balance between their relationship on and off the track.

Junelle Bromfield revealed that on the track, they maintain a professional boundary and when it comes to training, they never play around.

“I usually tend to separate our relationship from track a lot, because I feel as if we’re different people at the track,” Junelle Bromfield added.

“It’s a whole different personality and everything. Even when we’re training together, Noah can’t call me ‘baby’ at the track, because at the track, I’m Junelle. I’m not your baby at the track.”

As Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield plan for their wedding, they have learnt to trust each other and block negative energy from getting to them.
