ATHLETICS Looming showdown as big names confirm participation at third Athletics Kenya meet

The third Athletics Kenya meet will promise thrilling experiences with some of the top athletes including Ferdinand Omanyala, Mary Moraa, and Mark Otieno set to descend in the Nyayo National Stadium.

Athletics Kenya are gearing up to host the third meet and the event will prove to be a thrilling showdown owing to the number of athletes who have confirmed participation.

The event will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium and the events in line include the men’s and women’s 100m, 100m/110m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 400 mH, 800m, 1500m, 3000m SC, 5000m, 10,000m, and the 4x400m.

Other events lined up include the 4x100m, High jump, Long jump, Triple jump, Shot put, Discus, Hammer, Javelin, 10km race walk, Pole Vault, and the combined events.

Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala headlines the entries and the Kenyan will be competing in the 200m. Omanyala will be up against Mark Otieno, who will be looking to open his season stunningly after welcoming his son last week.

Otieno will also be competing in the 100m, where he will face off against Omanyala’s younger brother, Isaac Omurwa who has also been in great shape owing to his performance at the second AK meet.

Another athlete who will be looking to extend his winning streak is Boniface Mweresa, competing in the 400m. Kipng’etich Ngeno will also be in action in the 800m, hoping to open his season on a high.

Kisii Express Mary Moraa has also confirmed participation at the event where she seeks to compete in the 400m, 800m and 1500m races. Maximilla Imali will also be in the mix, hoping to impress in the 100m, 200m, long jump, 400m and shot put.

Mike Mokamba, Monica Safania and Millicent Ndoro will also be looking to extend their hot streaks at the Nyayo National Stadium. Reigning World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot will also be in action in the 800m with national champion Rukia Nusra also in the mix.
