LIST: 7 marathons where athletes will make their final attempts to qualify for Paris 2024 Olympics

This article provides a list of marathon races that athletes can qualify for the Olympic Games on Sunday since the International Olympic Committee extended the deadline for athletes to achieve the Olympic qualification.

Athletes who will be looking to qualify for the Olympic Games have one last stab this weekend before the qualification window closes.

However, some countries including Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia have already selected their marathon teams and athletes who go to compete in these marathons would just be doing it for the prize money and status.

The qualifying time for the men at the Olympic Games is 2:08:10 while the women will have to run under 2:26:50 in order to make the cut.

1) TotalEnergies Vitoria Gasteiz Marathon Martin Fiz

The first marathon that athletes can try to qualify for the marathon will be the Vitoria Marathon scheduled for Sunday, May 5 in Vitoria, Basque Country, Spain. Tons of athletes will be lining up with the hope of making an impact.

2) Prague Marathon

Apart from looking to shatter the course records set by Alexander Mutiso (2:05:09) and Lonah Salpeter (2:19:45), tons of athletes will be hoping to qualify for the Olympic Games and pocket the millions of prize money set aside at the event.

3) Geneve Marathon

The Generali Genève Marathon will take place on May 4 and 5, 2024. Each year, thousands of runners are excited about the beauty of the routes and its fast course and this will be a great opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

4) Copenhagen Marathon

The Copenhagen Marathon will be coming up on Sunday too, having attracted deep fields both in the men’s and women’s races. Thousands of runners will be looking to transform Copenhagen into a magical arena with one common goal which is to complete the 42.195 kilometers and hopefully qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

As per the Copenhagen Marathon organisers, the flat and atmospheric course takes the athletes through the Inner City of Copenhagen, passing iconic landmarks such as Rosenborg Castle, the Marble Church, Tivoli, and Kongens Nytorv.

5) Toronto Waterfront Marathon

The Toronto Marathon will also be happening on Sunday, with athletes looking to qualify for the Olympic Games later this year. The Toronto Marathon is a race from Yonge and Sheppard, in the north end of Toronto, to Exhibition Place, via Humber Bay Park. The origins of the event trace back to 1977, and the race was initially called the Canadian International Marathon.

6) Vancouver Marathon

Thousands of athletes will assemble in Vancouver for the marathon on Sunday with more than 20,000 participants expected to compete in either the full, half, or 8K courses. The marathon participants will be competing in the race with the hope of qualifying for the Olympics.

Non-runners will line the routes to cheer on those who are racing, and organizers are also hosting block parties on race day on Cambie Street, in Kitsilano, at English Bay, in Coal Harbour, and the marathon finish line downtown.

7) Pittsburgh Marathon

The Pittsburgh Marathon, also happening on Sunday, will offer athletes a chance to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Athletes will also be out to enjoy the hilly course runs through the city center and crosses each of Pittsburgh's three main rivers.
