Gabby Thomas dazzled at the Met Gala, was mistaken for Zendaya, and rebounded from disappointment at the Miami track meet.

Triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas turned heads and created a buzz at the 2025 Met Gala in New York City.

The Harvard-educated track star exuded elegance on the red carpet, earning praise from fashion critics and celebrities alike, including pole vault sensation Katie Moon.

But amid the glitz and glamour, Thomas’s most memorable moment came from an amusing case of mistaken identity.

Sharing the incident on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Thomas revealed that someone mistook her for Hollywood superstar Zendaya.

“Somebody mistook me for Zendaya last night so that was the highlight of my evening,” she posted.

Zendaya, a regular Met Gala showstopper, also made an appearance that evening in a contrasting all-white ensemble featuring a stylish coat, long pants, and a hat.

The Met Gala experience was light-hearted and glamorous but Thomas soon switched gears and got back to business on the track.

Just days before, the American sprinting star competed in the GST Miami Grand Slam Track meet, where she ran in both the 100m and 200m events. Despite her dominance in the 200m, the weekend brought mixed results for Thomas.

In the 100m sprint, Thomas finished fourth, falling short of expectations. However, she bounced back in her signature 200m event, securing a victory in the race but finishing second in the overall bracket, edged out by fellow American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.

“I'm definitely a little disappointed. I didn't come with it yesterday and that's what happens if you don't bring it each day, but at the end of the day, you can't be mad when you're competing against the fastest and the best of the best. So, I'll hold my head high and I'll take that with me,” Thomas said in a post-race interview with Citius Mag as quoted by SportsKeeda.

Despite the initial setback, the Olympic medalist showed resilience and focus, demonstrating her ability to regroup mentally between races.

“I think coming off a disappointment yesterday, I got it together and I got my mental back together for today,” she added.

Thomas’s ability to maintain perspective and stay grounded, even after a disappointing performance, continues to define her competitive spirit.

She also took time to commend her rival and teammate Jefferson-Wooden, who emerged victorious in the 100m and secured a podium finish in the 200m as well.
