Welcome to our live coverage of the fourth edition of the World Athletics Continental Tour, the Kip Keino Classic, at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Men's 100m

  • Ferdinand Omanyala clocked 9.84 to win the 100m and make it a winning end for Kenya at the Kip Keino Classic on Saturday. 
  • In a race that had two false starts, it end up not being a fast one for Omanyala, who had promised to break his African record of 9.77, but he still managed to win ahead of Americans Kenneth Bednarek and Marvin Bracy-Williams who claimed second and third positions in that order.

Women's 1500m

  • Uganda's Janet Chemusto spoiled the party for Kenya in the women's 1,500m as she beat a strong field to claim the win.

Men's 800m

  • Emmanuel Wanyonyi saved the best for last to claim victory in the men's 800m in a time of 1:43.33. Wanyonyi was in third position with 200m to go but found energy to beat Wycliffe Kinyamal to first position in a sprint finish that left the crowd on their feet. 

Women's 200m

  • American sprint sensation Sha'Carri Richardson obliterated the field to claim the women's 200m in a meet record time of 20.07. Richardson was in a class of her own, leaving rivals metres behind, as she won the race ahead of fellow American Kyra Jefferson. 

Women's 3,000m steeplechase

  • Olympic champion Beatrice Chepkoech effortlessly won the women's 3,000m steeplechase, clocking 9:13.52 to beat Faith Cherotich, also from Kenya to second place, with compatriot Jackline Chepkoech completing the podium.

Men's 1,500m

Reynold Cheruiyot wins men's 1,500m.
  • Reynold Cheruiyot upset favourite Abel Kipsang to win the men's 1,500m following a great finish.
  • Kipsang thought he had victory in the bag but Cheruiyot found energy in the final stretch to beat him to victory with another Kenyan Vincent Keter completing the podium.

Women's 800m

  • Mary Moraa finally got her revenge against South Africa's Prudence Sekgodiso when she claimed victory in the women's 800m, storming to victory in a time of 1:58.83.
  • Sekgodiso famously beat Moraa to the tape at last year's edition and the Kenyan had vowed to avenge the defeat which she accomplished in style by taking off in the second and final lap to claim victory.
  • Kisii Express, as she is famously called, beat Ethiopian Natsanet Desta (2:00.14) and compatriot Vivian Chebet (2:00.54) to second and third positions respectively while the South African defending champion could only manage fifth place.

Men's 200m

  • American Aaron Brown claimed victory in the men's 200m after clocking 20.14 to beat compatriot Kyrie King (20.18) to second place.
  • Men's 3,000m steeplechase

  • Amos Kirui claimed the men's 3,000m steeplechase in another Kenyan 1, 2, 3 sweep. 
  • Women's 5,000m
  • Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet clinched the women's 5000m in 15:15.82. Chebet had a brilliant finish in the last round to floor Margaret Kipkemboi and Judith Kiyeng who were closely following her. Kipkemboi (15:16.28) and Kyeng(16:16.66) finished second and third respectively.
  • Men's 400m hurdles
  • The men’s 400m Hurdles race saw Wiseman Were who has been in brilliant form since the season started add another accolade to his cabinet after he destroyed a strong field to win in 49.59- a new meeting record.
  • Were was leading from gun to tape as the crowds cheered him on to take the top honours. Kipkorir Rotich settled for second place in a new Personal Best of 50.37 as Edward Ngunjiri sealed the podium in 50.70. Elsewhere, Mercy Okech upset Malawi's Asimenye Simwaka in the women's two-lap race. 
  • Okech clocked a Personal Best of 52.42 ahead of the Malawian who clocked 52.78. Youngster Mercy Chebet sealed the podium in 53.35.
  • Speaking after the race, Mwangi was delighted to have smashed the meet record as she banked on her familiarity with the track.
  • “I have run my personal best and I'm so glad today. I had prepared well and I'm so happy. I normally train at the Kasarani and I was courageous,” she said.
  • In the women's 400m, Hannah Mwangi emerged victorious after clocking 57.44, a new meeting record, to cross the finish line first ahead of Diana Chebet who clocked a Personal Best of 59.40. Jane Chege sealed the podium after clocking 59.97.
  • The race finally restarts after the time machine was brought back to life.
  • There has been a delay in the start of the women's 400m hurdles following a glitch in the time machine.
  • In the men's 10000m, Daniel Simiu clinched the thrilling race after cutting the tape in 28:09.93 ahead of Japanese Toshihiko Seko who clocked 28:30.05 while Stanely Njihia placed third in 28:30.61.
  • Daniel Simiu did not hold back in stating his intentions of qualifying for the World Championships after clinching the Kip Keino Classic 10000m.
  •  "Winning today is just an indication of a good season and I'm happy that I have started well. My plan is to make sure I'm in the finals at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary because that's the climax of the track season.
  •  "It feels great winning at home with such a crowd cheering you," the Africa 5000m silver medalist underscored.

• Timothy Herman from Belgium won the men’s javelin after throwing 87.35. During the 2021 edition of the event, Herman finished third after throwing 77.73. Herman edged out reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada to second place. 

• Peters managed to throw 85.72m. Egypt’s Ihab Abdelrahman sealed the podium after throwing 81.04.

 •  Former world champion Julius Yego failed to impress on home soil after throwing 77.24 to finish fifth. Yego is just fresh-from competing at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha where he did not have an impressive start to his season.

  • Isaac Kirwa jumped a season best 7.34m to win the men's long jump at the Kip Keino Classic in another Kenyan clean sweep with compatriot Edwin Kipmutai, who jumped a season best 7.28m claiming second spot, while Bismark Korir (7.23m) completed the podium.
  • It was a Kenyan clean sweep in shot put after Peter Mwangi wins with a throw of 16.25m, with Benson Maina (15.86m) in second and third place going to Fredrick Chumba (15.30m).
  • Mwangi's win comes two weeks after he threw 15.71m to win the men's event at the Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meeting at Nyayo Stadium.
  • Fans have already started streaming in at the Kip Keino Classic which is underway at Kasarani Stadium.

  • Kenya's favourite Ferdinand Omanyala will be defending his 100m title on home soil as he eyes another African record after setting his current mark of 9.77 in the 2021 edition.
  • Omanyala is up against a strong field that includes American and Olympic and World silver medalist Kenny Bednarek whose 100m personal best is 9.89.
  • With crowd favourite and multiple world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce out due to injury, US sprint sensation Sha'Carri Richardson is set to be the star attraction as he features in the women's 200m.
  • The day's programme starts with men's long jump which has eight Kenyans; Amos Musili, Edwin Too, Vincent Tarus, Dominic Bitok, Emmanuel Mbogo, Bismark Kipkorir, Gilbert Pkemoi and Isaac Kirwa.
