The junior team is set to jet out of the country on Thursday, April 26.
Budding athlete Evelyne Chepkoech is plotting big ahead of the Africa U18/20 championships scheduled for Saturday, April 29 to May 3 in Ndola, Zambia.
Chepkoech will be competing over the 800m and the youngster is bullish about finishing in the podium bracket. She will enjoy the company of compatriot Judy Kemunto in the Under-20 category. She will be lining up with a personal best time of 2:06.62 over the two-lap race.

During the previous event held in 2019 in Ivory Coast, Ethiopians floored Kenyans in the women’s U20 1500m, 3000m, and the 4x400m relays.
“I want to go and bring a gold medal back home…I also hope to lower my personal best time. I have prepared well and I know I will take the first position in Zambia,” Chepkoech said.
This will be her second time representing the country since last year she was part of Team Kenya during the World Under-20 championships in Cali, Colombia.
Unfortunately, she could not manage a slot in the final of the 800m as she fizzled out to finish eighth in the semifinal.
She, however, revealed that she had learned her mistakes and she was ready to prove a point this time round.
“I went back to the drawing board and did a lot of speed training and hill walks…that’s what cost me a medal in Cali,” she said.

During the national trials for the continental show, Chepkoech obliterated a strong field to win the 800m and secure a direct to Zambia.
At the time, Chepkoech noted that she will be keen to intensify her preparations in the camp and make sure she reaches the final.
“The race today has been good but I’m a bit disappointed because I have not posted a good time. However, next time I will do better,” she said.
