Abel Kipsang fought hard to secure his first win in the 1500m this season.

Commonwealth Games 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet and Africa 1500m champion Abel Kipsang have stamped authority at the National Police Service Championships that served off on Wednesday, June 7 at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.

Chebet of the Eastern region destroyed a strong field in the 1500m to win the race in 4:07.18 ahead of reigning world under-20 1500m champion Brenda Chebet (4:09.18) who is based in Nairobi. Caroline Nyaga, also from Eastern Region, sealed the podium.

Chebet revealed that her main aim of racing in the 1500m was to gain speed and she expressed excitement towards winning her first-ever 1500m. “I was competing in the 1500m to see if I have the speed. I am happy to run under 4:10.00 and I am happy,” Chebet said.

Over the men’s 1500m race, Kipsang fought hard to secure his first win over 1500m this season. The Eastern-based athlete clocked 3:36.84 ahead of former world 1500m champion Elijah Manangoi. Mayebei Naibei finished third in 3:38.82.

The men’s 400m race saw Brian Tinega run away with the crown after clocking 46.22. William Rayian and Erick Kimathi finished second and third in 46.56 and 47.24 respectively.

The women’s 3000m SC saw Purity Cherotich take top honours after clocking 9:50.39 ahead of Lilian Chebii who tried keeping up but could only afford a second-place finish in 9:53.64. Caroline Jepkorir sealed the podium after clocking 10:08.55.

Maximilla Imali of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations proved unbeatable as she carried both the 100m and 200m crowns. Imali clocked 11.67 and 24.16 in the 100m and 200m respectively. In both races, Monica Safania and Eunice Kadogo finished second and third respectively.

With the absence of Africa's 100m champion, Richard Ogutu reigned supreme after cutting the tape in 10.64. Duke Ogoti and Robin Wanjala finished second and third in 10.69.

Gladys Kwamboka put up a good fight in the 10,000m women’s race and won in 33:05.07. Stacy Ndiwa and Sandrafelis Chebet placed second and third in 33:05.65 and 33:07.99 respectively.
