Fred Kerley to Battle Akani Simbine, Ferdinand Omanyala and Letsile Tebogo in Rabat Showdown

Fred Kerley is set to face Africa's top sprinters, including Ferdinand Omanyala, Akani Simbine, and Letsile Tebogo, in a highly anticipated 100m showdown on the continent's soil.

The men’s 100m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat will be a thrilling showdown, having attracted some of the strongest sprinters, including Olympic 100m bronze medallist Fred Kerley.

Fred Kerley has been the talk of the town since the start of the 2025 season, and will be out to make an impression once he steps foot on African soil.

The former world champion started his year on a bad note, being arrested in Miami Beach for battery on an officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Just a few weeks ago, the former Olympic 100m silver medallist was arrested in Miami for allegedly punching former partner Alaysha Johnson. They were set to compete at the second leg of the Grand Slam Track in Miami, Florida.

Despite that, Fred Kerley never failed to show up for competitions since opening his season at the Trojan Invite. He competed in the first leg of the Grand Slam Track in Kingston, Jamaica, finishing seventh in the 100m and third in the 200m.

Fred Kerley also won the 400m at the Mt. SAC Relays and the 4x400m relay at the Tom Jones Memorial. His recent victory was at the Franson Last Chance, where he won the 100m in 9.98 seconds.

At the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco, the American spring sensation will face off against African giants Akani Simbine, Ferdinand Omanyala and Letsile Tebogo, who have enjoyed great seasons so far.

Akani Simbine, in particular, has been on a roll, dropping splendid times and is currently the world’s fastest man this season.

The South African dropped the time, 9.90 seconds, at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix before extending his winning streak to the Diamond League Meetings in Xiamen and Suzhou.

Akani Simbine was also impressive at the World Athletics Relays before winning the 100m at the Atlanta City Games.

On his part, Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, wants to continue his winning way that helped him win the 150m at the Atlanta City Games.

He finished second at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen and, despite missing the podium in Suzhou, Omanyala aided in Kenya’s qualification to the World Championships at the World Athletics Relays.

Letsile Tebogo started his 2025 season with a series of 400m races to build on his endurance before making his 200m debut at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix.

He finished seventh at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen before coming home in third in Suzhou, both 100m races. He won the 200m at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha and has the much-needed confidence ahead of the 100m in Rabat.

The men’s 100m in Rabat will be a memorable one and fans cannot afford to miss due to the strong athletes assembled.
