Kenyan sprinter Boniface Mweresa is looking to achieve something he has only done once in his career as he looks to build on his good outing at World Relays Championships.

Kenyan sprinter Boniface Mweresa has cast his sights on something else after being part of the Kenyan team that sealed both 4x100m and 4x00m relay tickets to the 2025 World Championships.

Mweresa teamed up with Zablon Ekwam, Brian Tinega and Kevin Kipkorir in the 4x400m and finished second in their respective heat to qualify for the World Championships while in the 4x100m relay, he joined Ferdinand Omanyala, Meshack Babu and Steve Onyango to seal their ticket via the repechage.

Now, the sprinter is keen to make it to the World Championships, set to take place in Tokyo, Japan in September in his specialty 400m which means hitting the qualifying mark of 44.85 seconds.

“I want to focus purely now on qualifying for the 400m. I was actually selected into the 4x100m relay team purely by accident because Mark Otieno got a late injury and I had to replace him but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise,” Mweresa told Telecomasia.net.

“My ambition now is to use that confidence to battle for my own specialty race and I am quite confident I can make it. Looking at how I have started the season and the improvements I have made especially with my acceleration, I believe I can make it.”

Mweresa knows qualifying for the World Championships will not be easy given he is yet to clock anywhere near the qualifying mark in recent years.

His personal best remains 44.96 seconds, clocked in 2022, while his fastest time this season is 45.85 seconds, putting him under immense pressure as he looks to qualify for the World Championships over the distance for the second time in his career.
