Athletics Kenya President Jack Tuwei has suggested that something big is quietly in the works as the nation prepares its next wave of track and field stars.

Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei does not doubt Kenya’s future in the world of track and field.

Kenya has for long dominated middle and long-distance events, and they are strongly coming up in the sprints, something that makes an athletics enthusiast look forward to what lies ahead.

The current athletes might be dominating, but without a plan for the future, all the efforts are in vain. However, Athletics Kenya has a plan, and Jack Tuwei is excited about what lies ahead.

Even after the retirement of stars like Faith Kipyegon, Ferdinand Omanyala, Mary Moraa, Beatrice Chebet and Eliud Kipchoge, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This is because Athletics Kenya has come up with a programme to invest in the youth, and so far, things are looking up.

The retired Lieutenant General revealed that Athletics Kenya will soon bring the youngsters to the limelight, but for now, they are still sharpening their claws.

Speaking during the launch of the sixth edition of the Kip Keino Classic, Jack Tuwei explained that the future lies with the youth, the major reason behind the strategic decision to start tapping into those talents.

He pointed out that at the moment, more than 200 athletes are benefiting from the programme, and they want to keep going to ensure that Kenya’s future in track and field is secure.

Jack Tuwei also extended a hand of gratitude to the committee for coming up with such a smart move that will help Kenya to continue shining on the global stage.

“As we get excited about this, we also promise that a new crop of athletes from Kenya is coming up. I’m sure you’ve heard of these new camps,” Jack Tuwei revealed.

“Apart from Ferdinand Omanyala, we have a new crop of athletes that we are trying to expose to bring them to this popular end.

“It is part of a program that we have formed for the youth of this country. Any institution that does not have a youth program does not have a future.

“We have a future because we have the youth of this country, and I want to congratulate the youth subcommittee of the youth program at Athletics Kenya, and we are going to continue with that.”

So far, the world has experienced the likes of Olympic 3000m steeplechase bronze medallist Faith Cherotich and Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, youngsters who are making waves on the world stage.

However, following Jackson Tuwei’s sentiments, there seems to be more to come, and the world should surely brace for what Kenya has in store for them in the near future.
