Emmanuel Wanyonyi will face familiar foes next month in what is expected to be one of the fastest 800m races that could threaten David Rudisha’s world record.
David Rudisha’s 800m world record could be under threat next month after a star-studded cast was confirmed for the Oslo Diamond League.
The Oslo Diamond League, set to take place on June 12, will have Olympics champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, the Olympics bronze medalist and Frenchman Gabriel Tual, who is the European champion.
Of the three, Wanyonyi has the second fastest time in history of 1:41.11, Sedjati has the fifth fastest of 1:41.46, while Tual’s 1:41.61 is the sixth best in history.

The three were involved in one of the fastest 800m races in history during last season’s Paris Diamond League and the same is expected in Norway.
Wanyonyi has maintained that challenging Rudisha’s world record of 1:40.91, which has stood since he broke it at the 2012 London Olympics, is far from his mind but if the races is too fast, he could get closer of even do it in Norway given the cast he is up against.
The world silver medalist has only run one 800m race this year, being the Grand Slam Track, where he clocked 1:46.44 for a second-place finish behind world champion Marco Arop.
