Athletics Kenya shifts national trials for World Athletics Relays, invites based on rankings and antidoping, adjusts other events accordingly.

Athletics Kenya (AK) has announced the scheduling of National Trials for the 2024 World Athletics Relays, set to take place on April 6, 2024, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This pivotal event precedes the global competition, which is slated for May 4-5, 2024, in Nassau, Bahamas.

The decision to conduct the trials earlier than initially planned — originally set for April 11-13, 2024, at the same venue — aims to ensure that the relay teams qualify for the world meet within the specified qualification period.

"Participation in the trials will be purely by invitation. The invitation criteria will be based on the 2024 World Athletics Toplist and compliance with all antidoping requirements," the stetement reads.

In a move to foster international competition and camaraderie, Athletics Kenya will also extend invitations to teams from other countries to partake in the relay events.

The scheduled events include the 4x100m and 4x400m relays for both men and women, as well as the 4x400m Mixed Relay.

Consequent to these adjustments, the fourth AK Track & Field Weekend meeting, initially slated for April 5-6, 2024, in Kisii, has been rescheduled to April 12 - 13, 2024.

The new venue for this meeting will be announced at a later date.

Additionally, the Africa Senior Championships have been officially confirmed to take place on June 19-23, 2024, in Cameroon, further highlighting a busy and competitive season in the athletics calendar.
