Zech Obiero: Harambee Stars Midfielder Bags Top Award in England [VIDEO]
Harambee Stars midfielder Zech Obiero’s brilliant start to life with Tranmere Rovers continues after he was awarded a monthly award in the English fourth tier on Friday.
Obiero, who joined Rovers on loan from Leyton Orient in the January transfer window, has won the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month award for March for his exceptional curling effort against Oldham Athletic.
Obiero's goal, a moment of individual brilliance in an otherwise disappointing 3-1 defeat at Prenton Park on March 7, was selected by a panel of experts and a public vote. The strike provided a rare highlight for Rovers during a difficult month that also saw the dismissal of manager Andy Crosby.

Reflecting on the accolade, Obiero expressed his gratitude to the supporters. "Thank you to all the Tranmere fans who voted for me to win this award, it means a lot," he said.
"It’s been a tough few months for us, but we’re fully focused on doing what we need to do in the last four games to keep the club in the division."
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman praised the technical skill involved in the goal. "There was so much to like about Zech Obiero’s goal against Oldham," Goodman commented.
"Shaped as if he was running away from goal, a smart Cruyff turn bought him a yard and the curling finish into the top corner was sublime.”
Good Start to Life at Rovers for Obiero
To claim the award, Obiero's goal was chosen over impressive strikes from Mark Helm of Fleetwood Town, Newport County's Bobby Kamwa, and Reece Hutchinson of Crewe Alexandra. The judging panel included Goodman and fellow Sky Sports EFL expert David Prutton.
It is another statement of affirmation for Obiero’s talents as he continues his career revival, having struggled for gametime at Orient before his move to Rovers.
Obiero, who also scored a goal and provided an assist in his first two matches for Harambee Stars last month, has so far made 12 appearances for Rovers in League Two, scoring two goals, the second of which has earned him the award.
His immediate task is to save his team from relegation as a run of 11 matches without a win, which includes nine defeats, have left Rovers in the danger zone with four matches remaining.
