Obiero was among the scorers as Harambee Stars secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Grenada during the FIFA Series match played on Monday, March 30, at the Amahoro Stadium.

The hosts got off to a flying start, with striker Ryan Ogam opening the scoring in the 13th minute to give Kenya an early advantage.

Attacking midfielder Austin Odhiambo then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, putting the Harambee Stars firmly in control before halftime.

Zech Obiero, who came on as a substitute for Austin Odhiambo in the second half, made an immediate impact by finding the back of the net in the 81st minute.

Zech Obiero: Thank You, Jesus

The Tranmere Rovers midfielder later took to his Instagram page to share his excitement, expressing gratitude after finding the net in only his second appearance for the Harambee Stars.

“First goal for my country and a good way to finish the series. Thank you, Jesus. ❤️🇰🇪,” Zech Obiero said.

After making his debut for the Harambee Stars in their opening FIFA Series match against Estonia on Friday, March 27, Zech Obiero quickly showed his quality on the international stage with an impressive performance.

The midfielder played a key role in Kenya’s attacking play and provided a moment of brilliance by delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Ryan Ogam, who slotted home to level the score after Estonia had taken an early lead.

Despite the spirited fightback and Zech Obiero’s standout contribution, the match ultimately went to a penalty shootout, where Kenya fell short, losing 5-4 in a closely contested finish.

“Thank you, Jesus. So grateful for the opportunity to wear this shirt, it’s a dream come true @harambee_stars ❤️❤️,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zech Obiero was called up to the preliminary Kenya U20 (Rising Stars) squad for the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi in 2024.

Despite the initial buzz surrounding his inclusion, the technical bench ultimately dropped him from the final travelling roster, reportedly favouring domestic-based players at the time.

Later, in 2025, he faced a similar disappointment after being named in the provisional squad for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt but failing to make the final cut.

In March 2026, he finally made his senior debut for Harambee Stars under Benni McCarthy during the FIFA Series.
