Sunshine Stars vs Lobi Stars: Akure Gunners turn Pride of Benue into whipping boys
The Akure-based outfit Sunshine Stars have ended the 2023 NPFL Super 6 Playoffs on a high following a brilliant performance in their final game against Lobi Stars.
Sunshine shone like the stars they are in a four-goal thriller that saw them dispatch Lobi Stars 3-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.
Sunshine thrash Lobi to end on a high
In their final game of the Playoffs, Sunshine sealed their only win of the competition courtesy of an impressive first half display.
The Owena Whales dominated the first match of the day and it took just 23 minutes for them to find the breakthrough thanks to a Stephen Chukwude header from a free kick.
Michael Olulasi made it 2-0 six minutes before the break before Lobi finally pulled one back in the second half through Elijah Ani.
Ani’s goal was the only goal for the Pride of Benue in the competition.
But eight minutes from time Vincent Temitope added a third to restore Sunshine’s two-goal cushion and also wrap up the match.
What the result means
Following their third loss of the Playoffs, Lobi Stars replaced Sunshine at the foot of the table while the Akure Gunners moved up to fourth with five points from a possible 15.
