NPFL Super 6: No Sunshine for Akure Stars as Mbaoma inspires Enyimba to BIG win
Aba Millionaires Enyimba International are a step closer to their ninth title in the NPFL after an emphatic outing against Sunshine Stars.
Chijioke Mbaoma was the star of the day as Enyimba thrashed Sunshine 3-0 in the final game of matchday four at the NPFL Super 6 Playoffs at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Friday night.
Mbaoma netted an excellent brace to inspire the People’s Elephant to the biggest win so far at the NPFL Playoffs.
Mbaoma steals the show for Enyimba
It was a night to remember for the forward as he became the hero for Enyimba in the absence of star striker Chukwuemeka Obioma.
Obioma missed the game against the Stars after picking up an injury in the last game against Bendel Insurance.
However, the NPFL top scorer was hardly not missed as the Elephant put on a show in their fourth outing with his replacement Mbaoma in superb form.
The forward had Enyimba in dreamland after two goals in five first half minutes to give the Elephants a commanding lead at the break.
In the second half, Ikenna Cooper added a third to wrap up the win for Finidi George’s men after the hour mark.
What the win means
After the result, Enyimba remain at the top of the NPFL Playoffs table with eight points.
The People’s Elephant are joint-leaders with Rivers United but sit at the top thanks to a superior goal difference.
For Sunshine Stars, the result has seen them replace Lobi Stars at the root of the table with two points from a possible 12.
