Shujaa are on the brink of relegation from the series after an abysmal season.

Kenya 7s posted a nightmare start to the Singapore Sevens following a last-minute try from France that sealed a 26-19 victory in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Having clinched the title at the same venue back in 2016, Kenya were hoping to draw inspiration following a torrid season that sees them battle relegation as they are currently placed 13th which is the relegation playoff spot.

Shujaa however had a brilliant start to the game and finally landed the first try after some brilliant interplay with Herman Humwa who went for the quick tap five meters from the line to touch down with Tony Omondi adding the extras.

Just like in previous tournaments, Damian McGrath’s side shot themselves in the foot as a botched line out went straight into the hands of Paul Leraite who strolled over the whitewash for a five-pointer.

France sailed ahead in the game after Jordan Sepho received a pass on the right channel that caught the Shujaa defense napping as he fended off a Tony Omondi tackle to dot down a try that was converted by Jean-Pascal Barraque.

Kenya went into the halftime break with a slender 14-12 advantage after Kevin Wekesa sliced through the France defense like a hot knife on butter to score between the sticks with Omondi converting the try.

Shujaa restarted the second half like a house on fire as Brian Tanga’s pass found Tony Omondi on the left channel and touched down but missed the conversion.

France however hit back when Parez Edo and Jefferson Lee Joseph displayed some nice hands as Edo unselfishly handed the ball to Jefferson on the try line to dot down the ball.

With the scores level at 19 all, France pinched the ball from Kenya with William Iraguha spotting a gaping hole that he exploited to land a try that broke Kenyan hearts as Barraque added the conversion for a 26-19 victory.
