Kenya sevens have made it into the cup quarter-final after winning two games on the bounce following another big victory against neighbours Uganda

Kenya Sevens sealed their place in the cup quarters at the 2024 Challenger Series following a 29-7 win over neighbours Uganda in Dubai on Friday evening.

Nygel Amaitsa was the star of the show as he touched down twice, opening the scoring with a quick one before Uganda responded with a converted try to take a slender 7-5 lead.

However, Kenya upped the tempo with Patrick Odongo scoring the third, his second in Dubai, which was converted by Anthony Omondi for a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Shujaa maintained their tempo after the break when Amaitsa sealed his second, Omondi with the extras yet again, for 19-7 in favour of Kevin Wambua’s charges.

Amaitsa thought he had sealed his hat-trick shortly after but he was denied on the line but Kenya added two more with Kevin Wekesa also touching down to claim the 29-7 win.

It is the second victory on the trot for Kenya who had thrashed Mexico 41-0 in their opening match and leaves them top of the group and with a guaranteed place in the quarter-final with a match to spare.

Kenya will take on Germany in their final group match on Saturday and they will be seeking to maintain their 100 percent record even if they will not be playing under massive pressure.

Shujaa are seeking a route back to the World Sevens Series and they will need to be in the top four at the end of the three legs of the Challenger Series to get into the promotion playoffs in May.
