Kenya Sevens outclassed hapless Mexico to record an impressive 41-0 victory in their opening 2024 Challenger Series match in Dubai

Kenya Sevens impressively started their 2024 Challenger Series when they hammered Mexico 41-0 in Dubai on Friday, January 12.

Kevin Wekesa scored a quick brace of tries, the first one arriving after some neat passing with Vincent Onyala on the right wing of Kenya’s attack.

Wekesa then showed great strength to shrug off his marker before taking two Mexican players with him to cross the whitewash for his second try.

At this point, Kenya had pinned the Mexicans in their own half and made life difficult for them.

Nygel Amaitsa then danced his way past his markers for Kenya's third try with Anthony Omondi converting for a 17-0 lead.

Shujaa's work was then made easy by Mexico when Fahrid Samano was sin-binned after which Brian Tanga sprinted to the try line to extend their lead to 22-0 at halftime.

After the break, Patrick Odongo made his presence felt with his first try in Dubai and Kenya’s fifth, following a scorching run and Omondi converted for a 29-0 lead.

Shortly after, it was the turn of Onyala to cross the line after a good run for his 47th try for Shujaa which put them 44-0 up.

John Okoth added gloss on the score line with another try which was also converted by Omondi as Kenya ran out 41-0 winners to make a statement at the tournament.

Shujaa will now face neigbours Uganda on Friday evening before completing group stage action against Germany on Saturday.
