The 2022-2023 season has not been a smooth ride for Menengai Oilers in both the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup.
Oilers had displayed great performances in both categories but could not make it to the final of any as head coach Gibson Weru termed the season as a tough outing that saw all their efforts prove futile.

The Oilers' head coach noted that there were so many areas that prohibited them from displaying a better performance.
“This season has been tough for us and ending it on a low note is worse. We aim to perform better next time,” Weru said, as quoted by Nation Sport.
In their Kenya Cup semifinal clash against KCB at the KCB Sports Club, Oilers could not deliver as they were thrashed 3 to miss out on a slot in the final. During last year’s semifinal, they had overcome KCB to win 24-17 but could not replicate the same.
In the Enterprise Cup, Oilers also faltered as they lost 17-19 to defending champions Kabras Sugar in the tight match played at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday, April 8.

Another match to be played will be KCB against Impala Saracens.
Weru said the main focus of the team is to now go back to the drawing board with an aim of bouncing back stronger next season.
“We now have to go back to Nakuru and analyze the whole season to see where we went wrong. This will be key if we are to bounce back stronger,” he said.
