The Kenya Academy of Sports will cease to exist following recommendations by the National Treasury and Economic Council to have it axed and merged with Sports Kenya.
The Kenya Academy of Sports is among 35 state corporations set to be merged or wound up in a bid to avoid duplication of roles while enhancing efficiency in government.
The National Treasury and Economic Council has recommended the merger of at least 35 institutions, among them the Kenya Academy of Sports, which has been recommended to be merged with Sports Kenya, in a move that could see at least 20 CEOs lose their jobs.
Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) currently headed by Dr Doreen Anyango Odhiambo is a state corporation created by the Sports Act 2013 and mandated to establish and manage sports academies, train sports technical and administrative personnel and conduct sports research.

The Economic Council wants KAS to be merged with Sports Kenya, which is headed by Pius Metto, to create one entity for the development and promotion of sports in the country.
Sports Kenya is a state corporation also established by the Sports Act, 2013 and given the mandate to carry out functions formally performed by Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB).
The key aim for its formation was to promote co-ordinate and implement national and international sports programmes, establish, manage, develop and maintain sports facilities including convention centers, indoor sporting and recreational facilities in the country and participate in the promotion of sports tourism among others.

FOOTBALL Ksh 34 million to be distributed among top performers of Talanta Hela U19 tournament
The Ministry of Sports through the Kenya Academy of Sports will disburse Ksh 34 million to top performers of the inaugural Talanta Hela U19 football tournament.
Sports Kenya, which manages Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, is also expected to develop modern sports facilities as well us improve the existing ones.
The proposal will see new roles allocated once the merger happens while some state officials will likely lose their jobs while others are transferred.
