The team beat Lycee Bir Anzarane (Team A) of Morocco in straight sets to win their maiden African title.

Kwanthanze Secondary School ladies’ volleyball team coach Justine Kigwari has expressed his gratitude towards Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti for supporting the team to participate at the Federation of African Schools Sport Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.

In their final match, the team beat Lycee Bir Anzarane (Team A) of Morocco in straight sets of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-16 to win their maiden African title.

In their opening match, they had defeated Lycee Bir Anzarane (Team B). This saw them top the two-team Group B.

Kigwari noted that the governor boosted the morale of the girls after catering for all their expenses.

“The girls were already motivated by her act and they were ready to make her proud. I didn’t have a huge task,” the tactician said.

He added that hard work and discipline of the girls were also key virtues that propelled them to victory.

After conquering Africa, Kigwari hopes they will also go out to conquer the world at the school volleyball championships. They are also the Federation of East and Central Africa Secondary Schools Games volleyball champions.

“We are not going to rest because we also want to own the world title,” he bullishly said. Kigwari dedicated the trophy won to all Kenyans.
