Tournament director Patrick Obath has candidly explained everything the masses should know concerning the Magical Kenya Open Golf tourney.

Magical Kenya Open tournament director Patrick Obath has given reasons why the 2024 edition of the event is not one to miss.

Obath disclosed that the 2024 edition of the event allows different brands to showcase themselves and since the event is watched by over 400 million people, brands can get value for their money. He added that for an investment a brand makes, they can get profits even up to Ksh 3 million.

He also noted that the event is also a platform where Kenya can showcase tourist attractions. Obath added that the 2024 edition of the event will have a smaller number of entries.

However, he emphasised that the quality of the field is strong, announcing that the prize purse will be about Ksh 400 million.

“This year we shall have 144 entries since we got a smaller field and with the help of the DP World Tour, we got an additional 500,000 dollars so the prize purse will be 2.5 million dollars.

“This means that the quality of the field is going to be better and we are going to get a higher number of viewers,” he said.

He also announced that there would be golf for the disabled where there would be a professional tour for the disabled people with 10 players coming in including two women.

“They have various disabilities, there are two with cerebral palsy, two who have been amputated at different levels, and two or three of them have disorders within their spinal system and so forth.

“They are able to play as professionals and this is the first time this will be happening in Africa and I think this will be an inspiration to people who have different disabilities in this country to be able to see golf as an opportunity to make money,” he said.

Obath added that there will be a business conference to help investors network and know where to channel their money.

“Golf has so many people who rank so high in whatever they do but we never bring them together to talk about business. They always just come and play and then they go home.

“This year, we want to create a forum where we can be able to discuss business during golf. There will be a business forum a couple of days before the event where we will bring people who want to invest and the government.

“Golf has the opportunity of bringing people who can talk about business together and then we appreciate the value that our sponsors get out of this event,” he said.

He added that there will be an opportunity for Kenyan golfers to play in Europe and they will be keen to ask for a second slot where an individual will have the chance to play in two events.

“We will have nine local professionals, three regional professionals, and four amateurs because we also have a competing amateur event in South Africa.

“There will be a field of 144 and we hope that everyone will turn up for the event and with all the various attractions before the event will draw people here,” he said.
