The event was previously held in the country in 2018.
The International Table Tennis Federation has announced that the 2023 edition of the Africa Cup Championships will be held at the Moi International Sports Center, Indoor Gymnasium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The continental event is scheduled for May 1 to 6 and it has attracted Africa’s best table tennis players who will be battling for top honours.
Last year’s event was held in Lagos, Nigeria and it witnessed the emergence of Omar Assar and Hana Goda as the Africa Cup champions and they will be returning with a quest to defend their titles.
Teenage sensation Goda will be hoping to become the first teenager in Africa to retain the continental title when she faces strong opposition from other heavyweights. Egyptian champion Assar will also lock horns with his counterparts from other nations for the coveted trophy which he hopes to retain.
The Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) has hosted previous major tournaments including the 2018 continental showpiece that saw Assar conquer Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna to claim his first title in the East African nation. Another Egyptian, Dina Meshref took the women's title.
Each participating nation is expected to present two players each for the men’s and women’s singles events while the host nation is entitled to participate with four players for each event.
KTTA, led by president Andrew Mudibo, believe they are capable of staging another befitting tournament.
