Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to collide once again, with far more than bragging rights at stake. Their rematch, taking place this Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, will determine the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. 

The fight comes nearly two years after their first meeting in August 2023, where Usyk stopped Dubois in the ninth round in what many saw as a dominant, one-sided performance.

That bout was not without controversy. A fifth-round low blow from Dubois—called a foul by the referee—sparked debate across the boxing world. Some argued it was a legitimate body shot that should have been ruled a knockdown.

Others criticized Usyk for exaggerating the impact. While the controversy became a talking point, it didn’t change the broader takeaway: Usyk controlled the majority of the fight and won decisively.

Now, with the undisputed crown on the line, Dubois returns for revenge. The 27-year-old Briton is in his physical prime, while the 38-year-old Usyk faces the ever-looming specter of age. Though bookmakers heavily favor the Ukrainian southpaw, this rematch arrives under very different conditions.

Since his loss to Usyk, Daniel Dubois has done everything right. He’s remained undefeated, notching knockouts over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgović, and Anthony Joshua. 

A New Dubois or the Same Story?

Each of those wins displayed a new edge: grit against Miller, resilience versus Hrgović, and explosive power against Joshua. The version of Dubois stepping into the ring this weekend is not the same confused fighter from 2023.

“There’s no more hoping,” Dubois said this week. “I believe I will win. I know what I’ve got to do. I’m a young lion. I’ve just got to take over—be the man and execute the plan.”

Still, questions remain about those three wins. Miller was out of shape, Hrgović reportedly struggled with injuries, and Joshua made tactical errors that played into Dubois’s strengths. 

Usyk, however, is on another level. He’s undefeated in 23 professional fights, a two-division undisputed champion, and fresh off back-to-back victories over Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. He is, simply put, boxing’s elite.

Usyk: Still in His Prime or Racing Time?

At 38, Usyk is aware of the whispers—those who say the clock may finally be catching up. But if his recent performances against Fury are any indication, he’s still operating at peak form.

 His timing, footwork, and ring IQ remain unmatched. “I respect this young man,” Usyk said of Dubois. “He’s motivated. But so am I. And 38 is not old.”

Still, no fighter escapes time forever. If the wars with Fury have left even subtle dents, Dubois may be able to exploit them. Dubois’s best hope lies in the early rounds. 

Usyk tends to start slowly, analyzing and adjusting. Dubois must use this window to assert dominance—much like he did in the early stages against Joshua. 

His powerful and varied left hand could be the key. But caution and conviction must work in tandem. If he’s tentative, he’ll get outboxed. If he’s reckless, he’ll get countered.

And if Dubois can’t hurt Usyk early, the second half of the fight may become a tactical dismantling. Usyk gets stronger as fights progress. 

His tempo, angles, and volume wear opponents down both mentally and physically. Dubois's ability to maintain focus—historically a weakness—will be tested more than ever.

This fight may come down to timing—in more ways than one. Has Dubois matured enough to beat an all-time great? Has Usyk aged just enough to make this the moment it slips away?

The Briton will be looking to make history as the first undisputed British heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. But history is also on Usyk’s side.

 Few fighters have adapted as quickly and as thoroughly as the Ukrainian master. The pressure is on both men, but the burden of proof rests on Dubois.
