The writing was on the wall for the Melis Medo's charges who were up against a different beast.

Young Africans (Yanga) are the 2022-2023 Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions after beating Dodoma Jiji 4-2 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi on Saturday.

The now 29-time champions went into the match looking for a point that would be enough to help them lift the trophy for the second time in a row.

Timu ya Wananchi got off to a bright start, with Fiston Mayele forcing Dodoma goalkeeper Aaron Kalambo into a low save as the hosts looked to take an early lead.

Yanga did threaten through their forward Benard Morsison, whose header was cleared off the goal-line as the Blues survived a scare.

Nasreddine Nabi’s men continued to push forward and found the opening goal in the 38th minute when Kenneth Musonda drove into the box after beating one defender and made no mistake with just the keeper to beat.

Neither side could add to their tally as the half ended 1-0 in favor of the home side.

Dodoma Jiji came out flying in the second half and equalized in the 57th minute when Collins Opare headed home a cross from Idd Mwana.

In the 51st minute, Seif Abdallah Rashid Karihe gave the away side the lead after a good run from the right wing before firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Yanga managed to equalize in the 70th minute when a fine pass from Clement Mzize landed on the feet of substitute Mudathir Yahya, and he coolly slotted past Aaron Karambo to make it 2-2.

Timu ya Wananchi bounced back with more hunger as they claimed a lead through Farid Musa, who converted from Lomali's corner kick in the 86th minute.

Dodoma Jiji’s problems were further compounded in the match's closing minutes when Mudathir made it 4-2 after a swift passing from Yanga before slotting the ball past the Blues keeper from 16 yards out.
